Theatre of Dreams

Last weekend my friend Kristen and I made the drive out to Port Costa to visit Wendy Addison's Theatre of Dreams. The sign in the window was right—it was truly magical. I brought along my new-to-me Pentax K1000, although I didn't trust myself to document the shop with it, so these photos are all digital. I did shoot film of surrounding Port Costa, though, so hopfully I'll have more to share soon!

Gift boxes, prize ribbons and more...

Vintage French ribbon with letterpressed messages, plus glitter galore. See more here.

Chris + Annie

We came across kindred spirits Chris and Annie Koelle a while back while participating in a Poppytalk Handmade Market, and have been meaning to do a post on them ever since!

The talented pair met in college as art majors and make all kinds of good stuff together. We love following their work and inspiration on their blog, where we discovered Annie has a philosophy very similar to ours:
I think I have several goals I try to accomplish with each piece of art: to express my personal appreciation for the object shown and to provoke the viewer to appreciation for that object when they come across it again in their own lives. Did I explain that correctly? How about this: be thankful for all the wonderful things you have been given—strawberries, breakfast, cake, birds, lovely brooches, everything.

One of those wonderful things we share an appreciation of? Bikes! Be sure and check out Chris's bike art shop, Sweet Ride, as well as the Koelle Art blog and shop.

Sentimental Journey

I went on a little sentimental journey of my own a few weeks ago, when I made a trip home to sort through all the things I left with my parents when I went to college. Some of the stuff I hoped to find wasn't there, but mainly the experience was the opposite and I found treasures I'd completely forgotten. I came back with my own set of Childcraft encyclopedias (the very same edition I'd recently bought on ebay out of nostalgia), my childhood piggy bank (above), a quilt made by my aunt, and a newspaper from the day I was born. But my favorite find was a school assignment from the third grade called A Book About Me. It's basically a laundry list of likes and dislikes, but it was amazing to see how many things have stayed the same through the years, from my favorite breakfast (french toast) to my favorite subject in school (music, which was my college major). But the last line (below) was best of all. It makes me doubly grateful for the way my life has turned out.

A Kindred Summer

I'm really loving this desktop wallpaper Matthew found on Kindred—Alicia Bock's photo so perfectly captures the feeling of summer. You can see more of Alicia's work here and find more great wallpaper from Kindred here.

Weekend Getaway

A couple of our good friends got married in Inverness last Sunday, which gave us the perfect excuse to get away from the city for the weekend. We stayed at the amazing Blackthorne Inn, in a tree-house of a room called The Eagle's Nest (view from the sundeck atop the room, above), and were able to squeeze in plenty of exploring along the Point Reyes peninsula. The surroundings were truly inspiring and we went a little snap-happy: you can more photos here and here. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
