Sign Painters
When I was little, I wanted to be the person who painted holiday scenes on supermarket windows during the wintertime, and when I was pregnant with Dylan and trying to figure out how I was going to combine creative work with raising a little one, I had dreams of apprenticing at New Bohemia Signs with him in a Baby Björn. (Until someone burst that bubble and told me that the paint they use is incredibly toxic — although I now realize toxic fumes wouldn't be the only obstacle in sign painting with a newborn!)
So needless to say, I'm pretty excited to see Faythe Levine and Sam Macon's documentary about this oft-overlooked art. I'll be keeping tabs on this page for screenings in San Francisco. And maybe I can do that apprenticeship when Dylan is in preschool...
